High School Summer Programming

A select list of high school courses for Original Credit (ACC) and Credit Recovery (CR) will be available for enrollment beginning April 2024. Students must meet with their counselors first. Students will be able to begin working on courses for Original Credit only on May 15. All other coursework will begin on June 3, 2024.  During summer school, students are required to come to the summer school campus for all tests.  

OTHER COURSES: Summer is a great time for students to also make up AI/EOC hours owed from the school year. We also offer STAAR testing at Richland High School in June (see schedule below).

AI/EOC courses are currently open for self-enrollment through Edgenuity. To receive Accelerated Instruction hours per HB 1416, students must successfully complete all sections of the course with at least a 70% or higher. Courses are offered for all end-of-course exams listed below. Breakfast and lunch will be served free of charge every day.  Breakfast is from 7:30 AM- 8:30 AM. Lunch will be served from 11:00 PM-12:00 PM.  Breakfast Menu   Lunch Menu coming soon!

EOC, End-of-Course, Testing:  June 17, 18 & 20, 2024 - Your student’s school counselor will inform students of the tests that need to be administered.

All EOCs offered:  English I, Algebra I &/or US History, Biology &/or English II

High School Summer School provides in-district students entering grades 9-12 the opportunity to take courses for credit recovery, academic advancement, and/or accelerated learning. 

• Credit Recovery courses are taken by students who previously failed a course. However, these courses are not NCAA-approved. Credit Recovery students have already taken the course but did not receive credit for the course due to a failing grade or incomplete hours. Credit Recovery courses are marked with the designation CR. 

• Original Credit courses are taken by high school students to gain academic advancement and to earn credit for the first time and can also be taken by those who failed a course and want to earn an NCAA-approved credit for that class. Students taking an Accelerated Course may try to graduate early or take courses, so they have room during the year for electives or more challenging courses. Accelerated courses are marked with the designation ACC.

• STAAR/EOC (End-of-Course) Online courses are available to help students gain the necessary knowledge to pass a STAAR/End-of-Course, end-of-course assessment that they did not pass in either the 2023 – 2024 school year or the previous school year(s). These online courses are designed to meet the requirements of HB 1416 which was enacted in June 2024.  Students must complete the entire course and pass the exam with a 70% or higher to receive credit.  

• STAAR/End-of-Course Testing:   Students who need to take a STAAR/EOC Test will test on June 17, 18 & 20, 2024, depending on the assessment the student needs. The link to register for the specific tests will be shared on this website as soon as it is available.

Registration and Course Information:  

Registration for Summer School will be from May 15 to May 23 during regular school hours with the student's counselor. Once a student is registered in a class for Original Credit, students should be able to begin class within two days.  Another option for face-to-face registration for all students is May 28  from 11 am - 7 pm at the student's home campus.

Technology

All summer school students must have technology access every day per course while on campus at Richland High School. Students who have already checked out a Birdville ISD Chromebook will keep it for summer school.

College Math Prep Class

This summer, Birdville ISD will offer remediation for the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2) for mathematics through our summer school program.  Your child qualifies to participate in the TSIA2 mathematics remediation because s/he took the College Preparatory Math Course this past school year and has not yet earned a passing score in the TSIA2 in the area of mathematics. 

The TSIA2 is used to determine readiness for college-level work.  Based on how a student scores in the assessment, the student may either enroll in a college-level math course and/or be placed on a developmental math course.  The purpose of the remediation is to allow students to work on identified areas for improvement with the support of a Â鶹¹ÙÍø teacher and retake the TSIA2 math assessment to achieve a passing score, allowing students to enroll in college-level math courses at TCC. 

The Â鶹¹ÙÍø TSIA2 remediation program runs from June 7th through June 30th, Monday to Thursday.  A Â鶹¹ÙÍø teacher will be available to students from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM every school day. Students will take the TSIA2 mathematics assessment again at Richland High School at the end of summer school.  There will be no cost for the student to take this course or the TSIA2 assessment.  This remediation course is only for students who were enrolled in the College Prep Math course during the 2023-2024 school year.

Summer PSAT/SAT Prep Class

PSAT Prep Class

The PSAT Prep Class is designed to help students perform better on the PSAT. High school students will receive one hour of evidence-based reading and writing, one hour of math, and one hour of college enrichment. The program will be for two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I log in and access my course?

Login using the Birdville Portal at  Your username and password for the Birdville Portal will be the same as you used to log in to a desktop computer in a lab at your school. If you have never logged onto the Birdville Portal, you will be asked to set 3 security questions before gaining access. These security questions allow you to reset your password without going through the Technology Help Desk.

What if my login does not work for the Birdville Portal?

You must go to the Richland High School library where staff will reset your password.  After your password has been reset, you will need to log on to a desktop computer in the library to change your password. A naming convention recommended for your password is:

FirstletterofhighschoolCAPITALIZEDhs8digitbday. For example, a student born on January 1, 2002, attending Richland High School would make their password: Rhs01012002

When is the computer lab open for summer school?

All high school virtual labs are open from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Monday-Thursday. The high school math lab is open until 1:00 PM. Lab hours are available for English, Science, Social Studies, and Math. If you are taking an elective course, you should contact your instructor to arrange a tutorial.

Are students required to attend lab hours during summer school?

Not every day! Students must come to campus to take - unit tests and final exams with a teacher. Lab hours are also available for students who need help with the content as well. Labs are open Monday - Thursday for ELA, Science, Social Studies, and electives from June 18 & 20, 2024. Math labs are open from June 18 & 20, 2024 PM Monday-Thursday.

What is the difference between the A and B in Credit Recovery and Accelerated courses?

The A in the course title indicates the course is for credit for the 1st Semester (Fall Semester). The B in the course title indicates the course is for credit for the 2nd Semester (Spring Semester). It is important to make sure that students are signed up for the semester/semesters they need credit for.

How do students take their required final tests?

Students are required to take all unit tests and final exams in a monitored lab. When a student needs to take a test, they will use the lab available for their content area, open Monday- Thursday from 8:00 AM -1:00 PM, to do so.

Students may be signed up for any combination of these 3 courses (credit recovery, EOC (End-of-Course) remediation, or acceleration for original credit). However, they all serve different purposes. What supplies do my students need to bring to summer school?

All high school and middle school students must bring their Chromebooks to school every day. Middle school and high school students must wear their school id each day.  All other supplies will be available at school for students.
