four middle school students in the library
  • What is the Texas Star Reading Program?

The Texas Star Reading Program is a reading incentive program designed to encourage Birdville ISD middle school students to read and reflect on current high-interest literature.

Every year, each Birdville ISD middle school librarian customizes the state's Lone Star Reading List, making it the most relevant for their campus and students. The librarians carefully select books from state reading lists and award-winning and highly reviewed titles for students in grades 6-8.

We encourage self-selection, allowing students to choose books on the list which interest them.

Students are challenged to read ten or more books from their campus' list and complete ten book reviews by an April deadline.

Students who meet the goal of ten books are eligible to attend the Texas Star Reading Luncheon. The luncheon includes a catered lunch, a visit from one of the list's authors, a medal, a certificate, and an autographed copy of the author's book.

Students who read and review 18 Texas Star Books have the opportunity to attend a special book signing with the author during the luncheon.
