    Birdville High Families,

     

    We had a medical emergency at Birdville High School today when a student began choking while eating lunch in the school cafeteria. First responders were called to the campus as staff began to assist. The student was transferred by ambulance to a local hospital where it was determined that they needed to move him to Cook Children’s in Fort Worth for further care. The student’s family was notified and arrived on site at the hospital where BHS staff were waiting.

     

    We are thankful for the quick actions by the BHS staff while waiting for first responders to arrive. We also appreciate the timely response of local first responders. We will continue to monitor the student’s condition and hope and pray for a full recovery.

     

    As you can imagine, the incident today was traumatic for those who were present and witnessed the student in distress. We recognize that students and staff who were at BHS in the cafeteria today, as well as the student’s friends and classmates, may need support. Our counselors and staff will be available for anyone who requests assistance.

     

    We ask that everyone keep the student and their family in your thoughts and prayers. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding what happened today, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Tuvimos una emergencia médica en Birdville High School hoy cuando un estudiante comenzó a asfixiarse mientras almorzaba en la cafetería de la escuela. El personal de emergencia fue llamado al plantel una vez que el personal comenzó a ayudar al estudiante. El estudiante fue trasladado en ambulancia a un hospital local donde se determinó que necesitaba ser trasladado a Cook Children's en Fort Worth para recibir atención adicional. La familia del estudiante fue notificada y llegó al hospital donde el personal de BHS estaba esperando.

     

    Estamos agradecidos por las acciones rápidas del personal de BHS mientras esperaban que llegara el personal de emergencia. También apreciamos la respuesta oportuna del personal de emergencia local. Continuaremos monitoreando la condición del estudiante y esperamos y rezaremos por una recuperación completa.

     

    Como se puede imaginar, el incidente de hoy fue traumático para quienes estuvieron presentes y presenciaron la aflicción del estudiante. Reconocemos que los estudiantes y el personal que estuvieron hoy en la cafetería de BHS, así como los amigos y compañeros de clase del estudiante, pueden necesitar apoyo. Nuestros consejeros y personal estarán disponibles para cualquier persona que solicite asistencia.
